Upgrading
From the panel
Server › Update in the administrator panel:
- Under Configuration, choose a release channel — Beta while BHPanel is in public beta — and save.
- Press Update Panel.
The panel downloads the newest release, checks its signature and checksum, backs itself up, installs it, and then checks every website and service it was running. If anything that worked before has stopped, it puts the previous version back by itself and tells you why. Your sites keep serving throughout; only the panel restarts.
You can also switch on Update the panel automatically: once a day, in the hour you choose, only when nothing else is running. A release that was put back is not tried again automatically.
Keep your panel up to date
Turn on Update the panel automatically (Server › Update › Configuration). Security fixes then reach your server the night they are released, instead of whenever someone remembers to press Update Panel. It is safe to leave on:
- it runs once a day in the hour you choose, and only when no backup, restore or install is running;
- your websites keep serving - only the panel restarts;
- if anything that worked before stops working, the previous version is put back by itself, that release is not tried again automatically, and the panel's contact address gets an email saying why.
While it is off, the Update page reminds you.
From the command line
On a panel older than 0.2.41 (before the panel could update itself), run the
one-line install command again, without --light or --full:
curl -fsSL https://releases.bhpanel.net/install.sh | sudo bash -s -- --beta -y
On a server that already runs the panel it upgrades exactly what is installed there — Full's extras only where they are present — whatever was chosen at the first install. It never removes anything.
Operating-system updates
Server › Update lists pending AlmaLinux updates and installs them. You can also let it install them on a schedule, and reboot for a new kernel in a window you choose.
Adding components later
A Light server can add any Full component — another PHP version, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Node.js — from Server › Services, one button each.
